This figure is often referred to as Caguana or la Mujer de Caguana because her image is found as a petroglyph on several stones in The Caguana Ceremonial Park near Utuado, Puerto Rico. She represents the fertility figure of the Taino people who were native to the Greater Antilles. I have painted an image of the petroglyph, glowing as if she is coming to life. I named the painting Atabec (also Atabey, Atabex) associating the image with the Taino equivalent of Mother Nature or the Earth Mother.
